We are currently finalising the enrichment activities for the new academic year and the full programme of events will be published shortly.
At Arnold Hill Academy we believe that student life is about much more than academic success and we are proud to offer a wide range of enrichment activities. Our programme of enrichment experiences and challenges helps students from all year groups to develop their interests and abilities, inspires them to learn outside of the classroom and develops the skills required for the world beyond education. We want to give “everyone the chance to shine brightly”.
We have a vibrant Performing Arts department. Students can join the orchestra, samba, woodwind, rock and vocal groups, and are regularly given the chance to perform publicly. Our annual school show is a highlight of the year and is always guaranteed to be a sell-out. There are also opportunities throughout the year for students to take part in school drama productions, both on stage and behind the scenes.
We have a very enthusiastic and successful PE department. Our students are able to enjoy a wide and varied range of team and individual sports in our superb new facilities, and are given the opportunity to compete against their peers at schools both locally and in national tournaments.
Students from Year 9 onwards are able to get involved in the Gedling Open Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) Scheme. This leading youth achievement award gives our young people the opportunity to be the very best they can be, and we are fortunate to have a dedicated presence at the academy. DofE activities take place after school in the evenings as well as at weekends throughout the year.
New for 2017 is the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Army section that we are running in partnership with Nottingham High School. The CCF will offer our young people a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous and educational activities. Cadets of the Arnold Hill Academy CCF (Army) will have the opportunity to get involved with volunteer and charitable work in the community, and gain nationally recognised qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s award and BTECs.
At Arnold Hill we have a great track record for charity fundraising and are immensely proud of our students’ enthusiasm and support for national, international and local charity events. Each year they are keen to get involved and help charities such as Sports Relief, Comic Relief, Children in Need, Text Santa and Friends of Chernobyl’s Children. Fundraising provides an opportunity for our students to have fun while they work together with staff and their peers in other year groups.
Our clubs and activities take place both at lunchtime and after school. The majority of clubs are completely free and we aim to cater for a broad and diverse range of interests such as debating, trampolining, creative writing, playing chess, computer programming and playing in a rock group.
Students are also given opportunities to visit amazing places as part of Enrichment. Recent trips have included visits to London and Sheffield, field trips to Wales, theatre trips locally, PGL adventures at Caythorpe and journeys further afield, to Eindhoven, Ypres, Barcelona and Porto.
“Exciting", "interesting", "challenging" and "fun" are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the Enrichment programme at Arnold Hill Academy.
